I dont have work life balance, I have a life and my job is a part of it...
The questions of today's business age is "Do you have work life balance" some say yes, some say no... what do you think? is that a choice?
I personally believe it is a choice. The definition of work life balance is subjective to each individual. For some work life balance is working 9am to 5pm, and for other it is actually coming late in the morning and leaving late in the afternoon/evening. Therefore it is impossible for a company to respond to the needs of all individuals. Therefore it is a choice you can balance your life and work as you wish and be happy about it. If you are not happy, that means it is eaither not the right job for you, or you are not able to balance.. thought?
I see it more as work life "fit" - sometimes you have to fit work into your personal life; other times your personal life has to fit into your work. In my humble opinion, I feel it's a challenge to achieve total balance of work and life. With 4 children under 4 years old, I have, on most days, achieved a good fit where I can work full-time without feeling guilty about my kids. It requires a high degree of organization, support, flexibility, and transparency on my part as well as my my and my company's part.
I work for a firm that embraces work/life fit and offers tons of support for working mothers. This doesn't mean I show up when I want to, but it does afford me the ability to make decisions that best meets the demands at home and at work. The way I see it: sometimes work wins, other times my family wins. To me, that is a good fit.
It mostly depends on your time management & manage the manager ability, that's why it should be treated as a sign of success. Your professional success is significantly related with your "life" part of the balance.. It's very important to use a sufficient time to feed your soul..
