In today's world, we are all expected to make a difference. We are remembered at work if we leave our footprint , and in life people will remember you if make difference in their lives. How do we do this? How do we know if we are making a difference ? Does someone tell us ? What happens if don't make a difference.
I think the answers to these questions comes from knowing what is clearly expected from you. If you know what people expect from you and just deliver those expectations, you will NOT make a difference, you will not leave a unique trail and foot-print. You will only MAKE a difference if you deliver the UNEXPECTED, if you go the extra mile, if you deliver far beyond the expectations. It is a simple test, create this around you so they say "expect the unexpected if you work with him/her". Set goals and objectives which are ambitious, you will always deliver better than objectives which are not ambitious.
Why is it ? What is so special about the ambition and the dreams? we always hear everyone saying "Chase your dreams". The best way to explain this is a quote by Earvin Magic Johnson which says "You're the only one who can make the difference. Whatever your dream is, go for it."
We are, from our childhood, educated to control our dreams, don't we hear people saying ; "don't to this, don't do that, it is not possible, are you crazy, you live in your dreams" so we are by default, with our surroundings and the society, confined to live in reason. Everything has to be reasonable, everything has to be socially exceptible, everything should be make sense as common sense, therefore only the individuals who remove themselves from such constraints are the ones who make difference, who come up with a crazy idea. In one of the Leadership training sessions, I heard the instructor saying; "We need to UNLEARN what we have learned so far to do things differently" then we can create, innovate and make difference naturally.
So from today, do the unexpected, go above and beyond and make a difference at work and in people's lives...
